Rationale:

This specification covers round, uncoated, cold-drawn spring wire in coils intended for the manufacture of upholstery springs such as zig-zag, square-formed, and sinuous. The steel shall be made by open-heart, basic-oxygen, or electric-furnace processes. Heat analysis shall be made to determine the percentage of elements, such as carbon and manganese, present in the spring wire. Tension and wrap tests shall be done for one test specimen for each ten coils. Workmanship, inspection, packaging, product marking, and loading are also covered.
