Standard Specification for General Requirements for Wire Rods and Coarse Round Wire, Alloy Steel

Summary

1.1 This specification covers general requirements for alloy steel rods and uncoated coarse round alloy wire in coils that are not required to meet hardenability band limits.

1.2 In case of conflict, the requirements in the purchase order, on the drawing, in the individual specification, and in this general specification shall prevail in the sequence named.

1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard.

Rationale:

This specification covers alloy steel rods and uncoated coarse round alloy wire in coils that are not required to meet hardenability band limits. Heat and product analyses shall be used to verify that the required percentage of chemical compositions for carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, vanadium, nickel, chromium, molybdenum, copper, tungsten, aluminum and lead are within the specified limit. Required grain sizes shall be determined and specified as annealed, spheroidize annealed or patented. Tensile strength for annealed alloy rod and wires shall be evaluated using a tensile tests.
