Standard Practice for Onsite Exfiltration Acceptance Testing of Precast Concrete Water and Wastewater Structures

Summary

1.1 This practice covers procedures for onsite testing precast concrete water and wastewater structures using exfiltration acceptance limits to demonstrate the integrity of the installed materials, including structural integrity, and construction processes, with the exception of items included under the scope of Specification C1227 or C1613. Methods described herein are not intended to be used at the point of manufacture prior to delivery and assembly. Any disassembly or addition of components after performing this practice would invalidate the results.

1.2 The values stated in either inch pound or SI units are to be regarded separately as standard. The SI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with the standard.

1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

Significance and Use:

5.1 This is not a routine test. The values recorded are applicable only to the liquid holding structure being tested and at the time of testing.

5.2 Test times given in Table 1 are for prismatic volumes only. Test times for non-prismatic volumes, such as structures with tapered walls or non-uniform depths, must be mathematically adjusted and correlated to volumes calculated from average depths listed in Table 1.

5.3 All components of the assembled liquid holding structure must be designed or tested to withstand all loads and pressures resulting from this practice. Partial backfilling of the liquid holding structure prior to performing this test shall not be allowed unless approved by the owner.

5.4 The purchaser shall include the following information in bidding documents and on the purchase order, as applicable to the units being ordered:

5.4.1 Reference to this specification and date of issue,

5.4.2 Who will conduct the test, observe the results and determine acceptance,

5.4.3 Who will furnish labor, water and other material, measuring devices, and

5.4.4 Who will pay for the tests.
