Standard Specification for Pressure-Sensitive Tape for Sealing Fiber Containers and Cans

Summary

1.1 This specification covers one type of pressure-sensitive tape for closing and sealing slip cover type containers such as fiber tubes and metal cans.

1.2 The values stated in either inch-pound or SI units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system must be used independently, without combining values in any way.

The following safety hazards caveat pertains only to the test methods portion of this specification: This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to its use.

Rationale:

This specification covers one type of pressure-sensitive tape for closing and sealing slip cover type containers such as fiber tubes and metal cans. The polyester film backed pressure-sensitive tape is intended for closure and sealing of containers with slip cover closure, such as fiber spirally wound tubes and metal cans where strength, water-resistance, water-vapor resistance and resistance to rain and other deteriorating elements are required. The tape shall comply with the physical property requirements specified. The following test methods shall be performed to conform to the specified requirements: adhesion; shear adhesion; tensile; thickness; unwind; water penetration rate; water vapor transmission rate; and accelerated aging.
