ASTM E3430-25
Summary
1.1 This practice provides a standard set of procedures for inspecting and reporting on the installed board and wrap type fireproofing materials applied to structural steel or other substrates used in buildings.
1.2 This practice establishes procedures to inspect products and systems, including methods for field verification and inspection.
1.3 This practice addresses different types of board and wrap type materials used to establish fire resistive ratings for beams, columns, and decking in buildings.
Note 1: These installations are primarily on structural steel members and may also be applied on other substrates. This standard is not intended to be used as a framing inspection.
1.4 This practice provides an inspector and inspection body various methods to verify that required materials have been installed in accordance with the inspection document.
1.5 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard.
1.6 The text of this standard references notes and footnotes that provide explanatory material. These notes and footnotes (excluding those in tables and figures) shall not be considered as requirements of the standard.
1.7 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
1.8 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
Significance and Use:
5.1 This practice provides a standard set of procedures that are to be followed when conducting and reporting on inspections of installed fire resistance rated assemblies protected by board and wrap type fireproofing.
Note 3: These installations are primarily on structural steel members, and may also be applied on other substrates. This practice is not intended to be used as a framing inspection.
5.2 This practice provides a means to verify compliance of the installed fire resistance assemblies to the inspection document.
5.3 This practice does not provide a basis for selecting a listed design, the fireproofing contractor, products, any other material, service, or company, or a combination thereof.
5.4 This practice does not establish any performance criteria of the inspected fire resistance assemblies.
5.5 This practice does not include some organizations operating within government-controlled facilities that are regulated and overseen by that national government’s agencies, such as defense, energy, aviation, etc. These organizations sometimes have both inspections performed by the contracting department and inspections controlled by an internal quality assurance department within the same organization, which is regulated by one or more national government agencies. The AHJ is the national government. Provided that the government regulates the entire organization, this practice does not supersede these types of governmental programs and regulations, which establish independence from internal organizational burdens and create self-sufficiency from monetary incentives. Organizations that comply with these parameters are exempted from this practice, unless the government imposes this practice as a regulatory requirement.
