Notes
Following a query to BSI from a safety critical industry sector regarding an apparent anomaly in hardness values in BS 4929 Part 1:1973, basic market research was conducted on behalf of the FME/9 committee, which indicated there was no discernible UK volume production nor standard stockholding based on either parts of this standard. BS 4929 Part 1 is already partially replaced by BS EN ISO 7042:1998 and BS EN ISO 2320: 1998 although the extent is not clear. There is no apparent direct replacement for BS 4929 Part 2. The committee considered whether it was possible to undertake an adequate review of the standard in order to ensure its technical integrity but found that there was not the appropriate expertise amongst its membership, or available to the committee, to do so. Accordingly, as defined by BS0:2016 6.2.2 and 6.2.3, the committee recommends withdrawal of both BS 4929 Parts 1 & 2:1973
