This document is applicable to methods for the regulation of soil water content of agricultural areas by drainage, except for areas used for agroforestry.The local parameters, especially soil characteristics and the reasons for stagnant water determine whether draining with pipes, amelioration or a combination of both is useful and efficient. In all cases additional water from sources outside the area shall be kept away from the area. The removal of a plough pan resulting from soil tillage is not in the scope of this standard.
