Glass in Building - Design and construction rules - Part 5: Additional requirements for walk-on glazing
Summary
The series of standards DIN 18008 specify rules for design and construction for products of glass. Part 5 of the standard applies to accessible glazing that is designed solely for pedestrian access under normal conditions of use and to support vertical imposed loads not exceeding 5 kN/m2 (Hoch) in accordance with DIN EN 1991-1-1:2010-12 and DIN EN 1991-1-1/NA:2010-12, see NA to Table 6.1, such as for staircases, podiums, pedestrian walkways and lightwell covers. Additional requirements apply to glazing intended for vehicle access, exposed to high permanent loads or susceptible to increased risk of impact owing to the conditions of use. This part of the standard does not apply to accessible glazing only accessed by personnel during maintenance work.
