Soil, investigation and testing - Determination of grain-size distribution

Summary

The spacifications contained in this document are applied in earthworks, foundation engineering, hydraulic engineering and in the construction of traffic facilities as a base for denomination and classyfying soils. (See DIN 4022-1 and DIN 18196). The particle size distribution provides a description of a soil on the basis of an average geometric extension of its constituents. It is used as a base for establishing criteria for assessing soils and determining their suitability for particular applications. It is possible to infer from the particle soil distribution that a soil possesses particular properties of relevance for civil engineering purposes.
