Photocatalytic activity of surfaces - Determination of the photocatalytic deposition velocity of nitrogen monoxide at photocatalytically active surfaces

Summary

This standard specifies a method for determining the photocatalytic deposition velocity of Nitrogen monoxide (NO) to photocatalytic surfaces under artificial irradiation and thus it characterizes photocatalytic surfaces for their activity to reduce atmospheric nitrogen oxides under illumination with electromagnetic radiation in the range of UV / A. The photocatalytic deposition velocity is a material intrinsic property of the tested surface. From it the photocatalytic resistance is calculated, which in turn is an essential parameter for atmospheric dispersion calculations. Further, the method allows the variable use of different flow reactor types and geometries. It is largely independent of the size of the measuring system, as long as the conditions described herein are met. The process is limited to non perfused samples. It is suitable for determining the photocatalytic deposition velocity of painted or plaster coated surfaces as well as ceramics and concrete, for example.
