Summary
The project specifies a method for calculation of the saprobic index in running waters. It is applicable to permanently or timely restricted running waters of all sizes and in all geographical regions of Germany. It is not applicable for coastal waters and transitional waters, or permanently or timely restricted saltwater affected waters. In water traffic courses (canals) and high water controlled running waters this method is only of restricted applicability. Selection of time, frequency and locality of sampling is of decisive relevance for biological-ecological testing.
