Vane testing is suitable for water water-saturated, cohesive or organic soils of soft to stiff consistency. The document applies to field investigations for determining the shearing strength of the non-drained soil (see DIN 18137-1) by means of standardized equipment. Vane testing is employed for measuring the resistance of the soil in case of shearing, by means of field testing.
