Standardised terminology is important for the manufacturers and users of unmanned aircraft systems as well as for legislation and the regulatory and supervisory authorities. The international aspect of this technology needs to be considered right from the beginning. Terminology that deviates from international language usage and from the terminology laid down by ICAO, the major standardisation authority in aviation, should therefore be avoided.
