The document applies to human medicine laboratories which perform in vitro testing on samples of human origin, the results and findings of which are used for diagnostic purposes, as well as contributing to the monitoring of diseases, making prognoses, therapy and prevention; these results are also used for epidemiological studies or clinical tests which provide information on any changes in the state of health of an individual. The document is not applicable to terms and definitions used for qualitative measurement procedures.
