Summary
Together with DIN 58940-8, the document specifies the in vitro testing of the susceptibility of fastidious bacteria to antibiotics by broth dilution. The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) of fastidious bacteria, such as Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Moraxella catarrhalis, is determined by microdilution; the aim is to obtain reproducible interlaboratory and comparable intralaboratory results. This reference method may also be used as a routine method.
