Medical microbiology - Culture media - Part 3: Dip slides for microbiological urine analysis

Summary

This standard applies to dip slides used for culturing bacteria derived from patients' urine. Dip slides are provided for single use only. The number of post-incubation colonies per unit surface area serves as the basis for determination of the approximate bacterial count. Neither an identification of the pathogens based on the morphology of the colonies and on the growth developing on different types of culture media nor susceptibility testing of these pathogens can be performed with the aid of dip slides. The purpose of this standard is to specify those physical, chemical and biological requirements for dip slides which are necessary for their diagnostic application. These requirements constitute the prerequisite for ensuring a reliable detection of bacteria derived from patients' urine.
