Medical microbiology; methods of use dyes; Romanowsky-Giemsa stain
Summary
This standard is intended for staining air dried fixed films of periheral blood and bone marrow. The Romanowsky-Giemsa-stain consists of a mixture of the cationic dye azure B (DIN 58981 part 1) and the anionic dye eosin Y (DIN 58981 part 2) in aqueous solution, pH 6,9, which act on blood- and bone marrow films in appropriate concentrations. This standard describes the appropriate implementation of the stain by specifying the necessary apparatus and reagents. It is the purpose of the regulations as given in the following to provide reproducible and thus comparable staining results (staining patterns) for evaluation by manual and automated cytodiagnostics.
