Summary

This protocol is applicable for determining the surface dependent leaching behaviour of monolithic or plate-like or sheet-like construction products under dynamic conditions.The test is performed under experimental conditions fixed in this standard. This test is aimed at determining the release as a function of time of inorganic and/or non-volatile organic substances from a monolithic, plate or sheet-like product, when it is put into contact with an aqueous solution (leachant).This test method produces eluates, which can subsequently be characterised by physical, chemical and ecotoxicological methods according to existing standard methods. The test method is not suitable for species that are volatile under ambient conditions. Special precautions may be necessary with respect to the choice of equipment design and materials, handling of eluates and prevention of biodegradation when the leaching of non-volatile organic substances is of interest.This Dynamic Surface Leaching Test (DSLT) is a parameter specific test as specified in TC351/WG1 TS-1 (October 2009) and is therefore not aimed at simulating real situations. This measurement procedure allows the manufacturer to determine the information on the release performance to be provided with the CE marking.The application of this test method alone is not sufficient for the determination of the detailed leaching behaviour of a construction product under specified conditions.The parameters and conditions to decide if a construction product is monolithic, plate- or sheet-like, and thus if the DSLT is the suitable method for the given construction product, are outlined in TC351/WG1 TS-1 (October 2009).The test method applies to regularly shaped test portions of monolithic materials with generally minimum dimensions of 40 mm in all directions.
