This standard specifies requirements for mixtures of the mix group soft asphalt. It deals also with the selection of the constituent materials. Soft asphalt is a mixture of soft bitumen and aggregate. The concept covers a wide range of bitumen grades and different compositions. Soft asphalt can be produced in ordinary hot mix asphalt plants as well as in simpler, mobile equipment specially constructed for the purpose of producing soft asphalt. The use of a soft binder ensures sufficient flexibility and self-healing effects for use on low volume roads and on roads with low stability.
