This European Standard specifies safety requirements for winches for ship operation. These winches are windlasses, mooring winches, mast and funnel winches, boat winches. The standard is not applicable to: -Winches within the validity of 'Directive 98/37/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 June 1998 on the approximation of laws of the Member States relating to machinery'; -Cargo winches; etc.
