This standard applies to lifebuoys used on craft in sea and inland navigation, on floating devices, marine technology equipment as well as shore equipment neat waters. This standard lays down main dimensions, construction, safety requirements and tests of lifebuoys. Lifebuoys serve to keep a person afloat and to mark the location of emergency. In compliance with official regulations, lifebuoys may be equipped with lighting sources and floating ropes.
