Summary
This European Standard defines terms and specifies characteristics for ceramic tiles produced by extrusion and dry-pressing techniques used for internal and/or external uses for floors (including stairs) and walls and ceiling finishes. Furthermore, it provides the level of requirements on these characteristics and references to the test methods applied (see Note 1) as well as provisions for evaluation of conformity and marking (see Note 2).NOTE 1 The series of standards EN ISO 10545 describes the test procedures required to determine most of the product characteristics listed in this European Standard. The series is divided into 16 parts, each describing a specific test procedure or related matter.NOTE 2 Ceramic tiles that comply with the whole of this standard can be designated as first quality and bear a marking, according to the provisions in Clause 8. However, all tiles of any commercial quality are to be marked with the mandatory conforming marking according to ZA.3.This European Standard does not cover:- ceramic tiles, made by processes other than extrusion or dry-pressing;- decorative accessories or trim (such as edges, corners, skirting, capping, coves, beads, steps, curved tiles and other accessory pieces) or mosaics (i.e. any piece that can fit into a 7 cm x 7 cm area, see custom nomenclature);- dry-pressed unglazed ceramic tiles with water absorption greater than 10 %;- ceramic tiles used for floorings on the external road finishes.
Notes
Under certain conditions, DIN EN 14411 (2007-03) and DIN EN 14411 Berichtigung 1 (2007-07) remain valid alongside this standard until 2014-07-31.
