Summary
The field of application of this guideline is the estimation of the abundance and taxonomical composition of Chironomida exuviae. This widely used method provides important information of ecological status and functioning of aquatic ecosystems. The use of the method is supported by a newly developed identification key, which is currently being finalised by the Freshwater Biological Association.
