Summary
This document applies to surface cleaning machines for outdoor applications in public areas, roads, airports and industrial complexes. Cleaning machines for winter maintenance and/or indoor applications are not included within the scope of this European Standard. Surface cleaning machines in terms of this Standard, are self-propelled, truck mounted, attached sweeping equipment or pedestrian controlled as disclosed in EN15429-1. Surface cleaning machines by way of their function, have to scarify and effect movement of the material to be collected by; brushes and/or similar to a collection mechanism and thence conveyed to a hopper. Surface cleaning machines are additionally equipped with means to suppress emission of airborne matter. This standard defines a test apparatus/method to measure the efficiency of the collection of particulate matter when the surface cleaning machine is used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer. This standard discloses a method to declare a uniform expression of the result. Emissions from motive prime-movers are included in the test method. This document does not apply to road surface cleaning equipment that would be front mounted on tractors according to prEN 13524, or other vehicles. This standard does not apply to machines or components that are specifically designed for cleaning tramlines and rail tracks. This standard applies to machines manufactured after the approval date of the standard by CEN. Industrial sweepers, within the scope of EN 60335-2-72 are excluded from this standard.
