Ambient air quality - Atmospheric measurements near ground with FTIR spectroscopy; German version EN 15483:2008
Summary
Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR spectroscopy) measurement methods described in the standard are able to measure air pollutants on measurement paths in the open atmosphere (typically several 10 m up to kilometres) by remote sensing without direct grab sampling. The standards will focus on measurements of ambient air quality in urban, industrial and rural areas. It will cover as far as possible the measurement tasks and compounds listed in Annex I of the Framework Directive 96/62/EC (e. g. SO2, NO2, O3, CO). Moreover, in view of the specific capabilities of the described methods, which complement standard point monitoring techniques, it will cover additionally other applications and measurement tasks which are important for the air quality control like e. g. fence line monitoring and measurements of concentrations for the determination of fugitive and surface emissions (e. g. in the industry, on waste sites and in the agriculture). Compounds which are dealt with in connection with these additional applications include NH3, CH4 and specific hydrocarbons. The standard will not deal with open path optical measurements from platforms like aeroplanes, balloons or satellites. Moreover they will not deal with direct emission measurements from stacks, which are possible by optical measurements as well, but need a different methodology.
