Summary

This document applies to portable monitor bodies and includes requirements for the portable monitor assembly. The portable monitor assembly is a combination of components for ground operations that connects to a water supply via hose(s) and coupling(s) and projects extinguishing agents according to the operators requirements. The document deals with safety requirements, performance requirements, test methods, instructions for use and maintenance and marking. Additional requirements for water nozzles and foam nozzles are mentioned in parts 2 and 3 respectively. A monitor that can be permanently installed (e. g. on a flange, a vehicle, a fire boat, etc.) and can also be used as a portable monitor assembly, is also covered by this document, but monitors permanently installed on fire fighting and rescue service vehicles are covered by EN 1846-3. The safety requirements in this document are based on the use of portable monitor assemblies for exterior attacks. The document does not address any safety requirements relevant to interior attack.
