The standard describes general requirements for flap valves designed to prevent an explosion pressure wave, and an explosion flame from propagating via connecting pipes of ducts from one vessel into other parts of apparatus or process plant. The standard applies to explosions caused by dust- air mixtures. It cover isolation of enclosures protected by explosion resistant equipment, venting or suppression. These devices only provide protection when the explosion propagates against the normal direction of process flow. They do not provide protection against fire or burning dust carried by the process flow
