This European Standard specifies requirements for brake blocks, including interface requirements to be met by design in order to ensure the presence of the correct friction material, performance requirements to be met by rig, slip line and commercial testing and environmental requirements, including noise reduction requirements. This European Standard defines the level, tolerances, as well as mean and instantaneous behaviour for the friction coefficient. This European Standard includes recommendations for production monitoring, including controls to be undertaken on the product and on the material.This European Standard is applicable to composite brake-shoe inserts on rail vehicles which are intended to be fitted to the rail vehicles of the public or private train operating companies.
