In recent years, interest in bio-based products has increased significantly. One of the main reasons for their increased use is e. g. the possibility to develop new functionalities of the final products. The currently available biomass is used in the context of various applications, such as food and feed production, Electricity and heat production, the production of biofuels and the production of paper and fine chemicals. To ensure a responsible and environmentally conscious use of natural resources, a clear and unambiguous wording is of particular importance. This European Standard defines terms to be used in field of bio-based products, including horizontal aspects relevant for bio-based product standards.
