This European Standard specifies a method for the determination of the bio-based content in products, using material balance. This European Standard is applicable to any solid, liquid and gaseous product from a manufacturing unit, for which the bio-based contents of the inputs are known. Material balance according to this standard describes a mass balance method with an accounting of material entering and leaving the system and a precise traceability during the process allowing a physical presence of the bio-based material in the output. Although it is not the purpose of this method, the claimed bio-based content of the output could be validated by analysis.
