This Standard applies to semi-trailers suitable for vertical transhipment by means of grappler pockets, envisaged for the transport of goods by road and for combined road and road transport. The Standard lays down the maximum swept envelope for semi-trailers so that these are suitable for trouble-free, Europe-wide rail transport. The Standard also describes requirements relating to semi-trailers for use on the railway; the transhipment process and the actual transport must be considered.
