This International Standard describes a methodology for assessment of communication networks to achieve dependability performance and dependability of service. It provides a systematic approach for analysis of network topology, evaluation of dependability of service paths, modelling complex network configurations, application of network failure modes and effects analysis and network fault insertion test for dependability of service verification, and interpretation of dependability performance data for network dependability improvement. It also addresses the network dependability assurance strategies and methodology applications to enhance and sustain network operation. This standard is applicable to network service providers, network designers and developers, and network maintainers and operators for assurance of network dependability performance and dependability of service.
