Acoustics - Recommended practice for the design of low-noise workplaces containing machinery - Part 1: Noise control strategies (ISO 11690-1:1996); German version EN ISO 11690-1:1996

Summary

Based on the description of fundamental concepts of noise control (noise control, sound emission, sound immission and sound exposition) the document describes strategies for the treatment of noise problems in excisting and planned workplaces. It is applicable to all kinds of workplaces and all kinds of sound that can occur in working rooms, including human activities. It contains important hints to be observed when buying a new machine or plant. It deals exclusively with audible sound. The first paragraph 'General noise descriptors' defines the terms sound pressure level, time-averaged sound pressure level and work station. 'Noise emission descriptors' specifies the terms noise emission, sound power level, emission sound pressure level, surface sound pressure level, measured noise emission value, noise emission declaration, uncertainty, declared single-number noise emission value and declared dual-number noise emission value. The following terms are defined in the third paragraph 'Noise immission and noise exposure': noise immission at a work station, noise exposure of a person, noise immission and noise exposure descriptors. The last paragraph 'Noise reduction' describes the terms sound reduction index, sound absorption coefficient, equivalent absorption area, insertion loss, reduction of sound pressure level at a work station, direct sound, reflected sound, diffuse-field conditions, non-diffuse-field conditions, reverberation time, spatial sound distribution curve, rate of spatial decay of sound pressure levels per distance doubling and excess of sound pressure level.
