Summary
The standard specifies fundamental requirements for non-invasive, active and non-active ophthalmic instruments. It is also applicable to low vision aids and tonometers, but not to other ophthalmic instruments which are used in contact with the globe of the eye. The standard does not apply to operation microscopes, endoscopes and devices intended for laser investigation or laser treatment of the eye.

DIN EN ISO 15004-1 (2006-09) remains valid alongside this standard until 2010-03-21.*A transition period, as set out in DIN EN ISO 15004-1 (2021-05), exists until 2021-05-31.
