Summary
This standard contains a consistent and reproducible means of evaluating the load carrying characteristics of falling-object protective structures (FOPS) for earth-moving machinery under loading, and prescribes performance requirements for a representative specimen under such loading. This standard applies to all earth-moving machinery designed for a seated operator as defined in ISO 6165 apart from landfill compactors, excavators, rollers, trenchers, pipelayers and parts of machines where an additional seat is located for the operation of an additional attachment (e. g. attached backhoe).

DIN EN ISO 3449 (2006-01) remains valid alongside this standard until 2009-12-28.
