Summary
The document specifies methods for the determination of density or relative density of crude petroleum and of petroleum products handled as liquids. The capillary-stoppered pyknometer is for use with solids and coal tar products. It is not suitable for highly volatible liquids having Reid vapour pressure greater than 50 kPA (0,5 bar) according to ISO 3007 or having an initial point below 40 °C. The graduated bicappillary pyknometer method is recommended for all except the more viscous products, and is particularly useful when only small amounts of samples are available.
