Rationale for assessment criteria for minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and inhibition zone diameter (IZD) of fluconazole according to DIN 58940 for clinically relevant yeasts, and specification of fluconazole control limits for control strains
Summary
This technical report elucidate the determination of assessment categories (""susceptibility breakpoints"") for susceptibility testing of fluconazole against clinically significant yeasts. The data from several collaborative studies obtained by microdilution and agardiffusion according to DIN 58940 are evaluated according to microbiological, pharmacological and pharmacodynamical parameters. The outcome of this technical report is a valuated assessment of the specified breakpoints and the control strain limits for this antifungal agent, and gives the roadmap for further evaluation of other, respectively new antifungals.
