This International Standard specifies the measurement of 16 explosive compounds (nitroaromatics and nitroamines) in soils and soil materials. This International Standard is intended for the trace analysis of explosives by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) using a UV detector. This International Standard does not apply to soils with high organic matter content. Similar compounds, in particular other aromatics, by-products and degradation products of explosive compounds may be analysed using this method. However, the applicability should be checked case by case.
