Glass; resistance to attack by hydrochloric acid at 100 °C; flame emission or flame atomic absorption spectrometric method; identical with ISO 1776, edition 1985

Summary

This standard specifies flame emission (FES) and flame atomic absorption spectrometric (FAAS) methods for determining the amounts of alkali metal oxides released from the surfaces of glassware when subjected to attack by an aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid at 100 degree Celsius. The amount of alkali metal oxides determined is a measure of the acid resistance of the glass. The methods are suitable for testing the acid resistance of glass 'as delivered' and of glass 'as a material'. They serve preferably for the testing of glass from laboratory ware, from components of plant, pipeline or fittings and for other articles used for purposes which may be describes as 'chemical'.
