Petroleum products and hydrocarbon solvents - Detection of thiols and other sulfur species - Doctor test (ISO 5275:2003)
Summary
The doctortest described in this standards is used for the qualitative determination of mercaptans (thiols) and hydrogensulfide in hydrocarbons containing aromatic components. The test is not suitable if peroxides are present in the sample at concentrations which cause interference. This can be checked by a simple reaction with potassium iodine solution in acetic acid and a few drops of starch.
