Body mass data are extremely important for the ergonomic design of products and workplaces. However, the metrological acquisition of body mass data is costly and the acquired data become obsolete
Summary
In the context of an INS project (Innovation with Norms and Standards) supported by the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft (BMWi), the Universität Potsdam investigated the possibilities of developing methods for the extrapolation and/or estimation of human body measurements. Part of the project was a work shop which took place in 2008 and in which experts of NA 023-00-03 GA as well as external experts participated. DIN SPEC 33402-5 is based on the results of this study. It describes the biological and social factors (secular acceleration, changes in the society etc.) which influence the human body measurements within a population and analyses the national data records of human body measurements which form the basis for possible extrapolation or estimation methods. In addition, research on existing suitable extrapolation or estimation methods was conducted and one method was assessed.
