DIN SPEC 35201:2015-04

Reference model for the development of sustainable services

Summary

This DIN SPEC has been developed within a workshop set up on a temporary basis according to the PAS procedure. It has been developed and adopted by the initiator and authors named in the forword of the DIN SPEC. The reference model described in this specification illustrates how to develop a service that takes social responsibility into consideration. The model is intended for all service providers who want to go beyond the minimum legal requirements and incorporate social, ethical and environmental aspects in their decision-making processes, and who wish to account for their actions and decisions in this regard. The model described here is based on models commonly used in practice, and covers all of the main phases of services development. An integral component of the reference model is a a catalogue of sustainability criteria that apply to services development and that can be selected for a specific service as needed. Developers can then establish suitable measures, indicators and standards for each criterion during the development process. Examples are given of possible measures, indicators and standards that have already proven useful in practice. However, the reference model and catalogue do not themselves prescribe or define any measures, indicators or standards. These can be laid down by sector-specific associations or other organizations, for example.
