American National Standard for Portable Radiation Detection Instrumentation for Homeland Security

Summary

Revision Standard - Superseded.
This standard describes design criteria, performance requirements and performance tests for portable radiation survey instruments.

The purpose of this standard is to specify performance criteria and test methods used to evaluate portable radiation detection instruments. These instruments are used for detection of photon-emitting radioactive materials and quantification of photon exposure rates. Instruments are used for the purposes of detection, interdiction, and prevention.
This standard does not apply to instruments that are primarily intended to provide a measurement of dose equivalent, or dose equivalent rate.
The purpose of this standard is to specify technical performance requirements and performance testing requirements for those purchasing and using portable radiation detectors for Homeland Security applications.
