Acoustic requirements in non-residential buildings
Summary
This standard sets the required acoustic performances and assessment methods regarding airborne and impact sound insulation, façade sound insulation, noise from building services and sound reverberation for various finished non-residential buildings. As such, the concerned measurements can only be performed if all conditions relevant to the measurements are fulfilled. The required performances in the normative parts of this standard apply as rules of good practice for new non-residential buildings to build or for (parts of) non-residential buildings to renovate for which a building permit is sub-mitted after 1 January 2027.This standard applies to non-residential (parts of) buildings, like hotels, offices, healthcare facilities, day-care facili-ties for children, commercial or industrial buildings. Also dwellings intended for short-term stay (less than one month, like holiday dwellings) or dwellings depending on common kitchens and/or common sanitary spaces (like student lodgings, rooms in boarding schools or retirement homes) fall into the scope of this standard.Dwellings intended for long-term stay (more than one month) not dependent on common kitchens and not dependent on common sanitary rooms (like service flats, studios) are considered apartments and therefore fall within the scope of NBN S 01-400-1. Acoustic requirements for non-residential parts of school buildings are exclusively specified in NBN S 01-400-2.This standard also gives informative guidelines for the acoustical conditions in open plan offices and in rooms with multitalker noise (like eating and dining facilities). With respect to façade sound insulation, informative guidelines are given to make use of international outdoor noise indicators, to select façade elements in order to comply with the requirements and to adapt the requirements for bedrooms in the case of air and railway traffic noise. Finally, guidelines are given on how to adapt the performance criteria in the case of inclusive design in Annex N.The requirements set by this standard expire when specific stricter regulations apply. This may be the case, for example, with regard to facade noise insulation near airports.
