Absorption capacity of absorbent incontinence aids until leakage - Test method for measuring the suction capacity by use of a test torso

Summary

This standard determines the assessment of the suction capacity of incontinence products for moderate and heavy incontinence. It has been validated for all sizes of incontinence pants and templates (XS, S, M, L and XL), and for the value of the absorption capacity until leakage (ABL, absorption before leakage) which is between 300 g and 1100 g. This test method was developed for the measurement of the suction capacity of incontinence products for bedridden adults in home care and nursing homes. The test method is not applicable to products for infants or babies, and results with these products or with users outside of the target group, i.e. except bedridden adults in home care and nursing homes, can be unreliable. This test method is also not applicable to pull-up products and incontinence products for light incontinence. Using this standard, it is possible to measure the suction capacity of incontinence products and to assess the effects of additional design features in the design of the product such as improved absorption materials, cuffs, etc. However, the test method does not determine measurements for other user-based values that should be considered regarding the purchase decision, such as comfort, discretion, skin compatibility, noise, etc. Further discussion of these values can be found in directive ISO 16021 (Urine-absorbing aids - General guideline for assessment), which should be consulted in conjunction with this standard regarding the purchasing decision.
