This standard determines the assessment of the suction capacity of incontinence products for moderate and heavy incontinence. It has been validated for all sizes of incontinence pants and templates and for the value of the absorption capacity until leakage (ABL, absorption before leakage) which is between 300 ml and 1100 ml. This test method was developed for the measurement of the suction capacity of incontinence products for bedridden adults. The test method is not applicable to products for infants or babies. This test method is also not applicable to pull-up products and incontinence products for light incontinence. Using this standard, it is possible to measure the suction capacity of incontinence products and to assess the effects of additional design features in the design of the product such as improved absorption materials, cuffs, etc. However, the test method does not determine measurements for other user-based values that should be considered regarding the purchase decision, such as comfort, discretion, skin compatibility, noise, etc. Further discussion of these values can be found in directive ISO 16021 (Urine-absorbing aids - General guideline for assessment), which should be consulted in conjunction with this standard regarding the purchasing decision.
