Investigation of solids - Temperature-dependent differentiation of total carbon (TOC<(Index)400>, ROC, TIC<(Index)900>)
Summary
This standard defines a method for the determination of organic carbon, which is released up to 400 °C (TOC400), residual oxidizable carbon (ROC) (like soft coal, hard coal, wood charcoal, diesel exhaust particulates) and inorganic carbon, which is released up to 900 °C (TIC900). The basis is dry combustion under stream of oxygen to carbon dioxide using temperature gradients from 150 °C to 900 °C of dry solid samples of soil, soil mixed with man-made substrates and certain wastes with more than 1 g carbon per kg (0,1 %) (per carbon type contained in the sample). The method is applicable to dry samples of soil, soil mixed with man-made substrates and certain wastes (ash from burning of household waste, slag from burning processes, foundry sand) with more than 1 g carbon per kg (0,1 %) (per carbon type contained in the sample).
