It does not apply to clinical thermometers designed for special applications (e.g. thermometers for hypothermic) which owing to their measurement range, csale interval or maximum permissible error do not meet the requirements specified in the document.

A transition period, as set out in DIN EN 12470-2 (2009-11), exists until 2010-03-21.
