This Standard specifies requirements for mixtures of the mix group stone mastic asphalt. It deals also with the selection of the constituent materials. Stone mastic asphalt comprises gap-graded asphalt mixtures with bitumen as a binder, which are composed of a coarse crushed aggregate skeleton bound with a mastic mortar. Stone mastic asphalt is not pourable. After laying stone mastic asphalt mixture has to be compacted. The ratio of crushed to natural fine aggregate is normally >= 1:1. Stone mastic asphalt can be used for most kinds of traffic and in most kinds of climates on roads, airfields and other trafficked areas.
