This European Standard covers a data exchange protocol for the remote reading of all kinds of meters (water, gas, heat) on the basis of the open communication ISO/OSI layer model. This Standard specifies the application layer but not the physical layer and the properties. It does not cover electricity metering, which is a task of IEC/CENELEC.
